Reaching #MyFitnessGoal with my TomTom GPS Watch for Oyster Festival

I’m very lucky that I get to run here – Sea Point Promenade
I recently got the TomTom Multi-Sport GPS Watch. Before, I was trying to track my distance with my phone via phone straps and tried apps like RunKeeper, which didn’t really suit me. I was self conscious and worried about my phone falling out. I like to run free, and I don’t run with music. Reason being – you can’t run with music in organized races or marathons, so I don’t want to get used to it now, and then struggle in the Momentum Cape Times Knysna Forest Half Marathon that I’ll be running in July.
This is why the TomTom suits me perfectly. It’s light, comfortable and allows you to see your running, cycling or swimming metrics at a glace. See more and achieve more by setting goals and even monitor your heart rate to find … Read the rest

More changes & little announcements and other big little important things…

Graeme and I are entrepreneurs. If there’s an opportunity to create a business – we’ll do it! I had my first business when I was 24. I’ve closed and started a few projects over the years – loads of learning and trial and error and celebration along the way. For the past couple of years, we’ve steadily owned and managed three small businesses as sole proprietors. I write for a few websites and publications, I run Raising Men and I own a Cape Town based Social Media, Digital PR and SEO Agency called The Birdhouse. I’ve also started writing children’s books called The Silly Adventures of Buttons and Honey so actually I’m doing quite a few things. And I LOVE it. All of it. I’m never bored professionally because I have so many little projects going on all the time. I have loads of help, other team members, trusted suppliers … Read the rest

Raising Men is going through some changes – both at home & on the blog.

Hello. Exciting day, exciting times. Things are looking a bit wobbly over here lately. That’s because my amazing development team – Joomper is busy switching us over to the wonderful world of WordPress. This is a very grown-up blog move for me, and I’m a leeeetle bit scared (terrified) because I am sooo used to Blogger, but I need all those nice things like self-hosting, a profesh domain, SEO etc but I won’t bore you with those unromantic, technical bits. I use Joomper for all my blog, website and general life advice things. Werner and Hugh are BRILLIANT (and super nice guys too)

I have a new illustrator, Heidel Dedekind from Heidekind. She is the most wonderful, best, fresh and talented South African Illustrator that I’ve worked with recently and I luuuurve her. Look at how beautiful her work is? Doesn’t it just make you want to fill your … Read the rest

The Jacobs Kronung Baristas Iced, Frozen and Naughty Coffees launch!

On Sunday Grays and I were invited to the Jacobs Kronung Baristas launch at Shimmy Beach Club. I definitely haven’t been to such a fancy event before – it was really heavenly. There were loads of famous South Africans, models, tv crew, presenters, musicians and the Good Luck band. The venue was perfect, the food delicious and gourmet (Graeme put a deep fried mac and cheese ball in my mouth and I spent a good 20 minutes stalking all the canape servers to get another one) the wine and cocktails were delicious but you guys… the coffees!!

Jacobs is a very clever little coffee brand. They had demonstrations, competitions and a whole bar dedicated to making yummy frozen, cold and creamy coffees for us all afternoon. Coffee milkshakes, martinis, chillas and literally every different thing you can do with coffee was created and presented in the most delicious way. I

New Runner Diaries. Training for the Knysna Oyster Festival 1/2 Marathon.

Today is the first day of my training for the Momentum Cape Times Knysna Forest Marathon. Entries and registration opens to the public tomorrow.
Today is when I realized just how unprepared I am in every way. I need so many things and time and gear and gadgets. Grays went to get me a strap for my phone this weekend – so I can follow my progress with Run Keeper. My phone is so heavy – I fear growing an incredibly large right bicep over time. And where do you strap it? Your wrist? Your upper arm? Ankle? It feels like my phone’s gonna fall out? I need to get one of those smaller gadgets that tracks your distance – with a little clock. Apparently some are more accurate than others? Listen every step I take is important at this point.
It feels like I need to sit on … Read the rest
