Betty’s Bay in the Overberg. And my little baby photography background

IMG_0145My mom lives in Betty’s Bay in The Overberg. We go visit as often as possible because obviously we LOVE my mom and Lester. It’s so nice to see them and lounge on their porch with an ocean view as the boys play in the garden. Jack loves exploring the fynbos, paths and streams and digging his heart out at the beach.

There’s so much to do in the Overberg – with beaches, fishing, quad biking, hiking and even sand boarding. In Betty’s Bay you’re also very close to Hermanus, Stanford, Kleinmond, Pringle Bay and Elgin. After about a year of exploring the area, we’re still dead-set on Betty’s Bay as the perfect weekend retreat for the whole family.

IMG_0143I recently got a propers Canon professional camera and a few lenses from Graeme, so I’ve started playing around again. I used to be my school’s photographer and belonged to a … Read the rest

Old Mac Daddy – Luxury Airstream Trailer Park in Elgin, Western Cape

20140824_162650Last weekend we were invited to spend a night at Old Mac Daddy in Elgin, Overberg. When you hear “trailer park”, your mind makes all sorts of unglamorous assumptions. We were completely overwhelmed by how beautiful, luxurious and quirky it is. Creativity is the cornerstone of this mini caravan resort. It’s like sleeping in a little 50s art gallery in the most beautiful setting – the Elgin Valley. So beautiful in fact, that the Old Mac Daddy project won a Gold Loerie Award in the Three Dimensional and Environmental Design Category – Interior Design Temporary Structures. Read more about the concept, designers, architects and process here. Really, the trailers are beautiful, – each designed by an artist, designer or creative living and working in Cape Town

The Pick n Pay Knysna Oyster Festival ’14 – Where to stay, eat and play!

IMG_5431

I went to the Pick n Pay Knysna Oyster Festival last year and it was EPIC! I traveled with Keri from Midlands Musings – A South African Blog about fitness, health, travel, thoughts and ideas! We had such a phenomenal time. We did everything from Treetop adventures, whale watching, bunjee jumping, elephant petting, feasting, almost-paragliding and wine tasting. If you’re looking for fun, festivities and adventure for the whole family, then the Knysna Oyster Festival is for you. It’s for everyone. VIEW ALL THE KNYSNA OYSTER FESTIVAL EVENTS HERE. There is so much to do – especially for kids! Despite the weather, Knysna Tourism refuses to move Oyster Festival so that the whole family can enjoy the festivities. This year I’ll be writing and working on assignment, but please take your kids – there is an insane amount of things for them to do. Even kiddies foam parties! … Read the rest

The Tintswalo Atlantic: A Romantic Retreat in Cape Town South Africa

Tintswalo

I just don’t know how to tell you how phenomenally romantic the Tintswalo Atlantic is. We usually do family travel reviews, but I understand that as parents – we NEED that time away from the youngsters. We need to reconnect, to drink champagne, sleep late and take long, long soaky baths. I would say this is perfect for a honeymoon, an anniversary, a proposal and even a wedding. This is the wild card you pull above all the other wild cards. If you’re looking to surprize a gal (or guy) and splurge a bit, then do THIS. Pick this place.

Tintswalo Atlantic

Upon arrival at Tintswalo, you’re quickly greeted by friendly staff and ushered to the lounge while a glass of sparkling wine appears right out of nowhere. This gives you some time to relax from your journey, explore and soak in the views. It was raining when we got there which … Read the rest

Family Travel in Cape Town: The Table Mountain Cableway Winter Special

Cable Car Table Mountain Going Up

I recently wrote a post for Table Mountain.net (I mean you know you live in Cape Town if you’re blogging for Table Mountain right?) about the special they’ve got going at the moment. It’s all about family and kids activities in Cape Town so give it a read-over! An extract:

“On Saturday we took our boys for a little trip up Table Mountain. It was a surprise! The best part is that the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway has a Kidz Season Special running right now. Two kids ride free with an adult until 31 October this year. You need to purchase these tickets at the ticket office at the Lower Cable Station, and it’s only valid on weekends, public holidays and school holidays – which is the perfect time, really. The boys really enjoyed the trip in the Cableway. I remember going up as a little girl with my family, … Read the rest
