The thing about Noah is that we first need to talk about my late brother Neil.

Even trying to write about this makes me feel heart sore – thinking about parents that have children with learning disabilities, or other obstacles in their intellectual ability. My late brother Neil had  Coeliac disease, constant ear infections, malnourishment and needed a lot of extra care. My first memories of my older brother is of him in hospital. My first nightmares were of me teasing him for the little things that were out of his control. His handwriting. The cotton wool permanently positioned in his ears. His asthma pumps. My bragging when I brought my report cards home. Kids just don’t understand and I certainly didn’t. I’ve convinced myself that it’s normal for siblings to tease one another. Please know that many hours, weeks and years of consultations with psychologists went in to the previous sentence. Noted, a rather expensive sentence.

Why The Table Bay Hotel is the most WONDERFUL address in Cape Town

Over Easter weekend, our little family stayed at the Table Bay Hotel. As I start this I don’t even know how to give this magnificent residence the justice that it demands. What makes The Table Bay Hotel the best address in the Cape? Is it the building, the staff, rooms, the view? Is their credibility serviced by ridiculous amounts of famous people that have stayed there and regularly do? Is it the food, the high tea or the pool? When you go to a hotel – what makes you go back? Here’s why:

One thing we all know is that kids are expensive little angels. They also need lots of THINGS. Gadgets for travel – car seats, prams, camp cots, booster seats, carriers and nappy bags. Leaving your home to pop to the shops becomes an expedition only second to climbing a large mountain. The problem with kids is that as soon as you have everything you need, they outgrow it all and move on to the next set of gadgets: Push buggies, booster seats, walking rings, bikes, scooters, tricycles and bicycles with bells and baskets.  Some of these things amount to a fortune and most of the items won’t even be used for more than a year.
